Location: WashingtonBusiness Area: ResearchRef #: 10041480Description & RequirementsWe are seeking a highly motivated, dedicated individual with at least five years of relevant work experience to join our Sustainable Materials analyst team to undertake research and analysis on the decarbonization of heavy industry.You will have experience working in or writing about heavy industries such as steel, cement, aluminum, and petchems and their decarbonization. You develop original opinions through critical examination and enjoy communicating these in both writing and speech. Your quantitative skills are very strong, you are passionate about developing insights and analyzing market trends, and you have a good eye for detail. Teamwork is important to you, and you are excited by the prospect of collaborating with colleagues and clients from a wide range of backgrounds.OUR TEAM:You will be based in our Washington, DC or Houston, Texas office and working as part of a global research team at BloombergNEF - the world's leading independent provider of analysis, tools, data, and research to decision makers leading the transition to a low-carbon economy.   • Conduct research on the technology, policy, and economic factors that will drive industrial decarbonization.
  • Perform quantitative analysis, market sizing, long-term techno-economic analysis, and forecasting for industrial sectors.
  • Focus on topics including tracking and assessing the impact of government policies, regulations, subsidies, and carbon markets on the economics of net-zero technologies.
  • Gather and organize datasets pertaining to these topics from academic sources, publicly available disclosures, and by speaking with industry figures and BloombergNEF clients.
  • Establish a strong external network to speak with companies to gather information on early-stage technologies that can mitigate emissions from industries such as steel, aluminum, cement, and chemicals.
  • Publish written research on the above topics.
  • Address client questions in a timely manner and present the team's research to clients, prospective clients, and at external conferences.WE'LL NEED YOU TO:
  • Demonstrate an interest in and enthusiasm for technologies and pathways to decarbonize hard-to-abate sectors.
  • Have a high level of curiosity and excellent critical thinking to analyze how companies and governments can navigate the net-zero transition.
  • Demonstrate the ability to think strategically about the long-term pathways that could enable industrial decarbonization and perform economic modelling exercises to determine long-term outcomes.
  • Have strong quantitative skills, working with Microsoft Excel and other modelling tools to build cost models and capacity forecasts.
  • Have fluent English and good communication skills: writing (for research projects) and speaking (for presentations).
  • Work closely with other teams at BloombergNEF, including our Energy Transition, Policy, Hydrogen, Carbon Markets, Natural Gas, and Energy Economics sector teams.
  • Act as a self-starter, have a high work-rate, and have the ability to work on parallel tasks with attention to detail.
  • Derive information from public sources and in-person/telephone interviews.
  • Have excellent working knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).WE WOULD LOVE YOU TO:
  • Have a Master's degree in sciences or engineering.
  • Have at least five years of relevant experience in related sectors such as materials, chemicals, or energy.
