empowers everyone to thrive. The Health Data Analyst will help
develop and refine methodologies to evaluate thousands of U.S.
hospitals and other healthcare providers. You will work on
developing novel hospital performance measures (covering concepts
such as surgical outcomes and health equity), refining existing
measures, and maintaining and expanding U.S. News & World Report's
portfolio of hospital and healthcare ratings and rankings. Every
member of the team has a hand in shaping the evolution of the
analytical methods that inform potentially life-altering healthcare
decisions made by millions of usnews.com users each year.On a
day-to-day basis, you will write and review code to manage large
datasets such as Medicare administrative claims, collaborate with
other members of the analytics team, develop and refine quality
measures applicable in a variety of healthcare settings, and
combine these metrics into meaningful evaluations of healthcare
providers. You will report to the Senior Health Data Scientist, a
Ph.D. level leader.Are you up to the challenge?
- Write clean, well-documented code to manage complex data
pipelines for loading and processing large datasets
- Utilize statistical programs such as Stata and R to analyze
large datasets and develop compelling data visualizations
- Implement statistical models and algorithms to derive insights
from healthcare data
- Conduct rigorous code reviews to ensure code quality,
scalability, and adherence to best practices
- Perform data validation to ensure accuracy and reliability of
analytical results
- Interpret and translate data analyses into clear insights for
stakeholdersPosition Requirements:You should definitely have:
- One year to three years of similar or related experience
- Master's degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, health services
research, health economics or similar quantitative field
- A high degree of comfort with cleaning and managing of data
sets containing millions of records
- A grasp of modeling and statistical principles relevant to
quality measurement
- Ability to cultivate collaborative relationships with peers and
senior leaders
- Ability to communicate methods concepts to people with
non-technical backgrounds internally and externally
- High level of proficiency in statistical programming, in a
language such as Stata, R, Python, or SAS (most coding is done in
Stata and/or R).
- Attention to detail, strong communication, organizational and
time management skillsIt would be nice if you had:
- Experience analyzing Medicare claims or other administrative
healthcare data sets
- Research experience in health equity, social determinants of
health, or health disparities
- Experience collecting and validating primary data
- Knowledge of multilevel models and/or confirmatory factor
analysis or other structural equation models
- Subject matter knowledge in any area of clinical care
- Experience using version control, particularly GitLab or

- The anticipated base salary for this position is $65,000 to
$80,000. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of
factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the
individual applicant for the position, years of relevant
experience, level of education attained, certifications or other
professional licenses held, interview performance, and if
applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from
